How to get "Creed" or "Alter Bridge" sou

I personally love Mark Tremonti's OD sounds, but I haven't been able to find them with my Hamer Centaura and Mesa DC-10 combo. Does the mahogany in his PRS make that much difference? What am I missing?

Mark uses a blending of sounds in his records... I love his tone too... first off he uses custom wound PRS pickups that are high output. he also uses dual rectifiers and Bogner Uberschalls. Try a pretty drastic mid scoop and other EQ shapes

I've got his signature pickup in my PRS and a DR and I can pretty much nail his tones perfectly. He blends his TR with a bogner uberschall as mentioned above. A lot of his sound is from the rectifier and the pickup though.

Yes he does, and a rackmounted EQ!

I think platypus is correct with the pups and recto being important! I'm very close with my recto, and I'm getting his pups very soon! I'll be sure you post with results!

I think an EMG would be too 'processed' sounding for what you're after. I own both in my different guitars and while I love my EMG's, they're very 'metal' oriented, they sound almost too sterile for the cleans he uses and almost too edgy for the distortion. You really need a good high output passive pickup.

I also combine a covered alnico V magnet neck pickup with an uncovered high output bridge pickup, I believe he does something similar (as does page which was my inspiration for such a combo).
