I would like to hear from those that have done this and how you did it. I would like to change my Dual's faceplate to an all black Mesa face plate and wanted to know how this could be done? Does Mesa sell these face plates as an accessory so that you can buy one and do it your self? Also, how hard is it to change them out with a different one?

cheers-

Its really not that difficult. I took the chassis out, got my wifes hair dryer, and heated it up until you could lightly pry it off with a screwdriver. There are only 4 strips of double back tape holding it on.

The key to making it look good is prep. Sand it with 200 grit until no shiny surfaces are visable, wash it with soap and water, primer (and let dry), then 2 coats of flat black. DONT RUSH IT.

You CAN buy one from Mesa for $300 if you want to skip the paint process though. Although you still have to take the old one off so really its just a matter of spending $20 on paint and primer or $300 on the plate. Hope this helps.
