Hey guys

I was just wondering could any one tell me how I can get this type of sound from my Recto

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQSPu9nrL1A

This band is amazing and I have been a huge fan of there music for years, there music consists of blackened death metal/ prog metal band, from England
In this clip there using Recto's, and last time I talked to the vocalist, guitarist of the band on the bands forum He told me he doesn't boost his Recto when playing live.

Are you using a 3 Channel Recto? Because I see at least one 2 Channel on Stage Right (L/H side of the screen).

And with 2 Channels, a boost really isn't needed. 3 Channel is a different story.

Just watched the video...IMO, their tone wasn't tight at all...sounded like typical rectifier to me. They obviously go for a rounder and larger sound than the VERY focused and quick type.

Push the mids a little harder, and you should be there.

Looked like the guitarist was using EMGs too.

One more thing I'd like to add, that I don't think many mention..sorry for the double post, but I think it's important enough to warrant it.

THE RECTIFIER IS VERY DEPENDENT ON YOUR TECHNIQUE!

So many guys go through here looking for more amps, different amps, etc, and don't concentrate on their playing at all. If you put garbage in, the amplifier, this one more so than others, will put garbage out.

I had my first rectifier when I was a bit of a noob. I made it sound sloppy.

Fast forwards to now, and I can make an unboosted Rectifier sound menacing. My pick attack and technique has become MUCH cleaner and more consistent.

I'm not attacking your playing personally. But, I think it is a HUGE factor that no one mentions on this board. Practice, get better, and the amp will deliver what you put into it.

I agree with Eric on this one. Sounds like typical rectifier tone. I'd say drive the presence a little too. To my ears that tone could be acheived with a 2 or 3 channel. Could be my crappy laptop speakers or recording quality. Just my .02.

Cool thanks guys for your suggestions, I'll play around on my amp and see what type of tone I can get.

+1

Fantastic point. Couldn't agree more. A Recto will let you know where you are at in your playing, thats for damn sure.

Just wanted to say I agree completely with what you guys are describing. Garbage in=Garbage out, especially with such an expressive amp. I've been playing for 14 years now, and I've already found many errors in my playing that I didn't notice before. These amps really bring out what is coming from your fingers, and that's exactly where the tone starts! I've already started practicing more, inspired by the "magic" of my new Recto! =)

ibanez4life is right on the money.
Since I've owned my Roadster I've had to clean up my playing a lot.

Ha, nice to see another Akercocke fan other than myself!

The stuff I am working on right now is more or less in the same vein as what they play, and I can get roughly the same tone as Jason. I'm sure you can too. Thing is, it takes a lot of tweaking to get the tone where you want it.

You'll get it though. :)

Sure. For rhythms I mainly use channel 3 on vintage with these settings: Gain 3:00, Treble 3:00, Mid 9:00, Bass 11:00, Presence 3:00, Channel Volume 11:00. I use bold power, diode rectifier.

But I should tell you that from the time that has passed since my last post, I've actually started using a boost, and it's helped a lot with tightness. However, I could get good tone without using a boost, and it was still tight and articulate. Maybe look into a boost? I didn't want to use one at first, but after trying it on a whim, I was sold on it.
