I find I don't used the bulbs in my Hotplate so I removed them.

Is it just me or does the Hotplate sound better with the light bulbs removed.

That's odd, it might just be that you prefer the sound without the bulb because the bulb uses some of the 'wasted' energy to power itself so as to burn more power for you. I would imagine if you turned the bulbs on and used a lower attenuation setting the result might be the same?

I'm 99% sure about this. I believe that when you remove the bulbs you disengage the noise filter. There is a slight tonal change when you do this
because you have bypassed some circuits. Similar to bypassing Mesa'a serial loop in their amps, a slight tonal change. You have very good ears. Allot of people can't hear the difference.

Ejoy!

Instead of removing the bulb altogether, why not just flip the noise reduction switch to off? I haven't used the noise reduction in years because of the way it affects the tone.

PS I found that the stand alone Hotplate sounds better then the one built into the Univalve.

I had a HP and the weber mass lite tone wise is a lot better IMHO. The hotplate looks better and is smaller but the Weber sounds better and is $160 new. I never use the noise reduction on my HP, it does make a difference to the tone. IMHO

I think that the best sound improvement is to not use it...

Who cares about their hearing anyway? Isn't music meant to be played loud? 8)
