I've been the owner of an Einstein for the past week and since I live in a college dorm, have only been able to use it as a preamp into cab simulating software, in addition to some very low volumes. Well, tonight I felt the strength to carry my amp and guitar to another building across campus where there are practice rooms.
I am blown away by what this thing can do!!
First, I played around with just some basic settings of clean and crunch. Once I got an initial feel for the amp, I started to check out each setting individually, and on the 3 modes and 2 channels, nearly every setting I tried was AWESOME. I mean, not only can this thing produce any kind of tone, but it does it with a kind of perfection I haven't ever heard before.
I think there are two things that impressed me the most -- the mega mode and channel two set up for metal. First the mega channel: this couldn't be a better representation of what I think of when I think Marshall, only it's better! Everything I played seemed to feel more real, more of an extension of myself, than the other amps I've played with that sound. And channel two? I brought an MXR 10 band eq (not great, but works well enough for my needs) and set it up for the way I like my metal sound, and the Einstein DELIVERED.
As for volume, I really wasn't expecting it to be as loud as it was. I guess volume isn't a big concern of mine as much as tone, but in a gig setting, I don't think this is all that far from my Triple Rectifier.
Speaking of my Recto, I think it's worth saying that there are some things it can do that just nothing else can. I love that amp, and even if it isn't great for everything, it has probably my favorite guitar tone ever locked in it (although I haven't really played the Einstein enough to say for sure!).
The bottom line is this -- I don't think there's a better way I could have spent the money I did on the Einstein. I can't believe how great of an amp I now have in my possession!
