i'm using a triaxis/2:90 with a genzbenz 2x12 and recording with a sm57. almost all the guitars i'm recording are high gain so of course some hum is present. but what is the best way to control the feedback and hum on the recording? ideally i want to get a ISP Decimator rack unit for my rig, but money is a bit tight. would the pedal be a good option or should i just noise gate it after the recording?

any other options i'm not thinking of?

Im in the same boat as you right now. I don't like the idea of noise gating anything...I feel like it degrades the tone. I'm gonna use my decimator for now until I purchase Sound Soap 2. Seriously the best noise eliminator I've ever seen/heard. All ya do is give it about 2 seconds before ya start playing and it analyzes that noise after ya press learn....and it's gone. Even underneath your playing that unwanted crap is gone. It takes away hum and can even clean up very very old records.....it's seriously impressive.
Another suggestion I have is don't put your gain above 7.5 on the Triaxis, and don't use the deep on the 2:90. Just doing this takes down the hum and quiets your rig. Here's my setting I just recorded with an SM81 and I'm really happy with the crunch. It just comes down to mic placement.
Gain-7.5 Tre-7.5 Mid-5.5 Bass-3.5 Ld1-0.0 Ld2-6.5 Mstr-5.5 Presc-3.5 Dyn-3.5 and the 2:90 set to 1/2 drive. Lead 2 Yellow.
