I'm looking for a new amp. My rectoverb's buzz saw tone is starting to get old for me. I understand the Mesa marks are dark and not buzz-sawey? Can you guys post me some clips of different mesa marks? thanks!

And for comparisons sake, a Recto;

MkIV's are sweet, but be prepared to loose alot of bottom end when you switch from Rectos to Marks.

They're not my clips, but they were done with a Mesa Recto 4x12.

I'd love to know how the Mark IV clips were recorded and the amp settings.

Great clips! This is why I must have both these amps. :D

Hey guys, those were my clips. If you any of you guys have any questions I'll do my best to answer them.

Those clips sounded great. What were your settings on each amp and how did you record? How loud was it?

Thanks. For the stuff with the Mark IV it was either my ESP Eclipse or my Les Paul---> Mark IV---> Recto 4x12---> Shure SM57---> dbx mic preamp---> computer---> Cakewalk Sonar 3 Producer's Edition.

My settings were:

Lead w/ Graphic EQ, Pentode, Harmonics, Simul-Class, full power

Lead Gain: 8
Treble: 8
Bass: 3
Mid: 10
Lead Drive: 8
Presence: 6

The EQ depending on the sound I was after looked either like this

or like this

For the Rectifier my settings were

Bold, Silicon Diodes, Red channel (2 channel recto) on Modern.

Presence: 3
Bass: 6
Mids: 8
Treble: 8
Gain: 8

I didn't have either amp turned up very loud. Most of these clips were done between 2:00-5:00 am

Thanks alot. I really appreciate all your info. Your output level looks like it's up around 5 in one pic. Can't see your master volumes 'cuz you have no knobs! :D

Thanks again.

They're not mark clips, but I found these as well;

The metallica clip is a little bassy.

Nu-Metal crap below. Just a warning.

Marilyn Manson MobScene. A little dull sounding.

Oh my signal was like this on all clips:

PRS Standard 24 > Recto > Mesa Traditional 4x12 > Shure SM-57 > Peavey 24 channel mixer > PC

Great tones! The mark IV has a great pre amp. The clips sound as if you aren't pushing the power tubes. Try recording it again, and push the master output to get some power tube distortion! I think you will have the classic Mark IV tone, instead of primarily preamp distortion.

here's a song i recorded using my 85 mkIII with a marshall cab
