Hi guys!!!
I've been using a Tremoverb since 2003, this year I had the opportunity to buy a RoadKing. I sold the TOV and got the RD Series I. Ok. I've been using the RK head for about two month without find a decent round lead or crunch sound for riffs that doesnt sound fuzzy all the time. Im using a Recto Cab V30. Its me? I thougth I could find similar and better sound like I found on my TOV.
Please help me am I doing something wrong, I know Its a subjective thing. I dont know what to do. Im very frustrated. Im ok with channels 1 & 2, but I cant dial 3 & 4. Im using a PRS CE 22.

Thanks

Carlos

For me to get my optimal tone with a Road King, I throw an EQ in the loop. I use a boss GE7. Got it cheap off craigslist. works nice.

Disregarding the EQ for a moment, here is my typcial setup on channels three and four that work rather nicely for me.

1st, the stuff that applies to both channels.

1. It has been my experience that you get a noticably tighter tone when you keep the channel masters low. No higher then say 10:00. I keep mine at around 9:00 - 9:30. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!

2. Secondly, the more tubes, the tighter the tone. The effect on volume is minimal, the effect on responsiveness is big. Try no lower then 4 power tubes, mixed to your taste. All six will obviously get you the tightest response.

Third, I use diode rectification again to add to the quicker attack. I use rectifier on the clean settings. To be honest, if you look at the lights on the Road King, I sometimes get the feeling it uses both regardless of how you set the switch.

4th, gain never higher then 2:00. It gets pretty fizzy and mushy after that.

For the individual channels. For me I have found channel 3 to be voiced better for the vintage settings. Here are my settings
Vintage
Gain 12:30-1:00
Treble 12:00-12:30
Mids 9:30
Bass 12:30-1
Presence 9:15
Channel Master 9:15-9:30
2xEL34 4x6L6

Channel 4 I use for Modern. With the Modern setting, you have to give it some volume or else it will be total fizz. I have never gotten modern to work at Bedroom levels.
Gain 1:30-2:00
Treble 11-11:30
Mids 9:30
Bass 12:00
Presence 9:00
Channel Master 9:15-9:30
2xEL34 4x6L6

Trying keeping the channel masters low and using more tubes, these two things make the biggest impact in my opinion.
