Hey all, im having trouble dialing in a really good blues/pop tone. im trying to get it pretty much like john mayers tone. The gear i have is mesa roadster dual rec 2x12, i have a Kelley clean boost with overdrive switch, thats pretty much it with the overdrive part. any suggestions with amp setting and pedal settings or just other pedals would be apprciated! thanks.

You didn't say what your guitar is but if it's not a strat, that would be a good place to start. For overdrive sounds, I don't know if the dual rec will be smooth enough for the tones that you're going for. Try to get as nice of a clean sound as you can and I see you have a clean boost, but maybe try an overdrive pedal up front for the crunch. I know Mayer likes dumble/fuchs style amps which sound quite different from dual recs....much smoother.

John Mayer has GREAT tone and AMAZING gear. Two Rocks for cleans. Dumbles for lead. And tons of great gear in between. A Roadster just won't do those sounds.

If you want to get close to copping Mayer's tone, get an old Fender Super Reverb, a TS808, and a Hermida Zendrive (or Menatone Howie). That setup will get you SO much closer than anything you can slap in front of a Roadster.
