I am retubing my Simul 285 power amp and need to know where the EL34 and 6L6 mathced sets go. Here is a graphic of the top of the amp with the cover off. I have numbered the positions for reference.

1 - 12AX7
2 - 12AX7
3 - EL34
4 - EL34
5 - 6L6
6 - 6L6
7 - 6L6
8 - 6L6
9 - EL34
10 - EL34
11 - 12AX7
12 - 12AX7

The 12Ax7s are fine. My question is, I have 2 new matched pairs of 6L6s and 2 new mathced pairs of EL34s. I know which sockets the EL34 and 6L6s go into but where should I place these mathced pairs? Do you install matched pairs on the same side or do you place a matched pair with it's counter part on the other channel?

Option 1)
match pairs of EL34s in positions 3&4 and 9&10
match pairs of 6L6s in positions 5&6 and 7&8

Option2)
match pairs of EL34s in positions 3&9 and 4&10
match pairs of 6L6s in positions 5&7 and 6&8

I think it's option 1 but what do you guys say?

Thanks in advance!

your option 2 is the right answer. as long as the matched pair stays on one of the channels, everything should be smooth.
