I just played my iv this morning and was bothered by something like lo-fi sound from the bqckground. I thought my pickupa were the issue but tried another guitar. And its still there. I also tried changing cables but its still there. The sound comes and goes. Is this a tube failure problem?.. i also checked the tubes but it seems all are ok. No glowing red hot or blue. Ill try to record the sound so that you can hear it. I hope its only a minor tube failure. Thanks

The sound you hear maybe some form of microphonics. If that's the case it'll be one of your preamp tubes and maybe not your power tubes. Try gently tapping each of the preamp tubes with an eraser from a pencil and see if the sound gets worst. If it does, replace that one tube.

thanks for the reply.. i tested my iv awhile ago. and the sound issue its gone! maybe thats a kind of microphonics happening in there. whew.. ill check on my preamp tubes when i get back from work. Im just wondering if maybe the sound was also caused by nearby equipments operating?..

What type of equipment was operating near by? I guess that is definitly possible. If that's that case then it could still be the tubes, or the cable, and even the guitar pickups (single coil) picking those things up. I have an old strat and sometimes (not often) it get some Mexican radio station, lol. Not often though, but with ONLY that guitar.

So it is possible.

Single coils are the worst at picking up noise, also some pedals. If it isn't the guitar or cables, always check preamp tubes next. On another forum i've heard complaints as far as an MXR phaser picking up the next door neighbors wireless phone, to someones nearby local ham radio pushing their signal onto their gear and a DIY metal pedal picking up christian radio  . But Mesa's will probably never pick stuff up by itself. It will always be the guitar or the peripherals.

OK, I'll ask the obvious: is it a Made in Mexico Strat?

LOL....no, this one was made in the US.

haha most probably i heard somekind of radio signal from my neighbor.. btw my generic 7 string guitar was plugged in. Maybe that's also the culprit. About the equipment i was talking about. Below my room is the laundry area. And this morning my house maid was doing laundry. Maybe that cause the sound?.. I think my Wall Socket in my room and laundry were wired together..

:D

Is the sound a scratchy, intermittent sound? That has been happening in my Marks for over 20 years and no one can tell me what causes it. I have lived with it... it comes and goes.

Nope, the sound aint scratchy. More of like a radio signal. But it seems to have gone. Ill try to monitor it again for a week.
