I am the original owner of a Mark IIB combo. It's been great, but really getting mushy and muddy on the low end if on high gain. It's also getting boxy/cardboardy sounding. A few facts:
- Had it serviced about two years ago (first time ever, so reliable!); swept out, replaced bad power cord, tubes replaced
- I have swapped out other tubes, so I don't think it's a tube issue
- Original filter and tone stack caps; opted not to spend money to replace when I had serviced two years ago as was happy with tone then.
- Runs dead quiet: no hissing or popping
- It sounds this way regardless of which speaker I am running.
- The problem gets really bad when I pull out the tone shift on the master volume and am on high gain, and even if bass gets above 1 even if master boost is not pulled out.
Will tone stack caps help? Any other ideas? Looking forward to getting this sorted out - I've had this amp forever and it's a part of me by now.
