I have a Mesa 50/50 (blue light, but don't see a choke in there) power amp that i use to power my pod HD pro. Honestly i'm pretty freakin happy with my overall tone but i'm always looking to upgrade...always. I gig out a couple times a month in the typical local venues - bars and clubs, occasional theatre. Power amp never goes above 4 on the dial - and that's with the pod output around 50%

So my question is, has a similar power amp upgrade from the 50/50 made a worthwhile difference in tone for you? I was considering one of the newer 2:90 and/or rectifier power amps (not familiar with all the models). I'm also considering having the "deep mod" done since it appears mine does not have it seeing the choke is not in it.

I'd love to hear from some folks that have done similar upgrades and how it went.

Thanks.

Hello HRGPlayer,

The Original 50/50 was designed to work with Mesa's Quad preamp.... when the Triaxis became popular, Mesa came out with a factory mod that 'voices' the amp for use with the Triaxis... the mod increases the Bass response and provides a little more gain.

Since you are not using a Triaxis, there will be no benefit to mod your 50:50... (not to mention the extra cost and risk of damaging your amplifier) :D

Here's a newer 50:50...

I regularly use a 20:20 with two Mesa 1x12" Cabinets and find more than enough headroom for all of my gigs...

I hope this helps...

Joe thanks for that. Yeah headroom is certainly not an issue. More curious about any tone variance with one of the other power amps mesa offers. Definitely want to stick with 6l6s.

Probably will skip the deep mod then on the 50/50. thanks again for info. It does sound good as is frankly.
