Has anyone tried Tom Anderson Pickups?

I did this experiment about 2 years ago and had some bad luck.

I bought the H1 and H3. The H1 I did not like much. The cleans were great, but it was not as buttery or high output in the neck as I expected. The H3 I received was wired improperly from the factory and as a result had a super low output. I didn't realize it until much later and by that point I had given up.

Look through the classifieds section--there were some for sale about 1-3 months ago. You can contact the seller and get his opinion as well.

I would like to try the H3 again, but after the first poor experience I lost motivation (and money)

what are you going to drop them into? my pups sound incredible in my TA hollow Drop T, but might not be the "cat's meow" in a Les Paul, for instance
cool thing is, you can email Tom with your question and he will answer it...quickly ,at that!great service 8)

I wanted to put one in my les paul, after i heard Billy Howerdel from A Perfect Circle used them in his LP. I heard they sound pretty dark in LP, unless you change the pots.

I have e-mailed tom for that past couple weeks for questions, but im still so unsure :?
Im really interested in the H3 but apparenlty andersons dont work well with les pauls and sound like a passive EMG (the H series) is what i have been hearing from some people.
Well its either I go with the Andersons, or I go with Bare Knuckles.
But im having a hard time moving away from the andersons because Mesa uses the H3 to test amps and I have this idea in my head that my tone will become much more amazing if I go with andersons...

go to www.andersonforum.com that is where the TAG'ers hang out, including Tom, and it is just like this forum, only they are TAG users. By the way, Tom and the TAG factory are all on vacation this week, and closed, so you won't hear.

I own 4 Andersons. I have never used the H3. too hot for my use. The H2+ is a great pickup adn the HO is a more buttery neck position pickup, or the H1-. I was under the impression that Doug West's Anderson had an H2+ in the bridge position. However, it is a vintage (older) Anderson and the TAG pickups have all gone through iterations since then.

Tom or Roy at TAG could best tell you which pickup would fit the tone you seek with the gear you have.

Thanks man, thats exactly what I needed. I was looking for an anderson forum!

I dont know how it will sound in a LP but my H3 kicks butt in my Drop Top http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae74/scoden_2010/andy.jpg[/IMG]

I know its high output but its not at all muddy....splits very well...cleans up great with volume knob ....sounds great for higher gain rock classic / 80s ( not metal)....all Anderson pickups have this cool sort of sweet compressed sound that makes it sound like a great recording when you play ..maybe thats what people mean when they say it sounds too hifi...but I love it....clean tones never spikey// dirtier tones arent muddy....thats all you can ask for.

I tried an H3+ in one of my Explorers. Utter sonic failure. Dry, super-articulate, but not a speck of warmth that I should have heard. Did not satisfy. .I've heard that the H3 is a different beast altogether, and have one incoming to try out from a buddy of mine. I've also read that a 1 meg pot will really open up the pickup.
