You may get more answers if this question was posted in a more appropriate thread. When I saw you posted in "vintage amps" I almost passed your post.

Anyway, I would have a pro look into the wiring job it may just be poor wiring/installation.

good luck.
David.

i agree with david, have ur stuff checked.... hell i got so frustrated with my 81 install i just gave some guy 10 bucks to do it. i can play pretty well, i can dial in a good tone... but man i cant solder to save my friggin life. BTW my 81 sounds mean as hell on my nomad ch3.

Loud buzzing in the guitar is usually indicative of a bad ground. I would also recommend having it looked at by an experienced guitar tech.

E-mail EMG for the schematic. They are cool as hell to deal with. I have four Guit's with EMG 85's, 89's or S's. I had a problem wiring an EMG SAV and it buzzed like crazy and had diminished output. Read the schematic and start from sratch. An EMG should be almost perfectly silent from natural buzz and hum in the correct environmnet. Mine barely buzz if I walk near a TV or halogen lamp.

If you can't find any grounding problems, I would suspect the pickups.

A long time ago, I installed some EMG pickups that made an awful hum, which was particularly bad with my Studio Series amp, but not as noticable with other amps. The wiring and grounding was done correctly, so I'm convinced there was something wrong with that particular set of pickups. I've got newer EMGs in a 7-string and they are the quietest pickups I've ever heard, including when I plug them into the same Studio Series.
