Just curious... Anyone actually just say screw it, dime everything on the amp and blast a power chord ala marty mcfly?

reason being i personally never have turned the volumes past noon or so. I have a 2 ch DR that is plenty loud at 9 o'clock and at shows the most it's turned up is at 11 o'clock

I've been wondering the same thing too. Are we talking diming volume and gain here? Would it blow out the speakers if you do just a few chords? The feedback alone should turn your gonads into raisins, but I imagine the kick in the stomach feeling when you crank it would be insane.

I always thought with any of my recent amps (ROV, DR, and DSL 50) anything past noon on the volume requires the gain to be dialed back and starts to sound muddy. 11 seems to have been the sweet spot.

i have never turned my DR up past noon and at that volume, in our large practice space (converted 2 car garage) it's deafening.

I usually keep it around 1030-11.

I have a solo 50 and have done this. output all the way up.

you have to dial back the gain or the amp will start to feedback uncontrolably.

I record with a dummy load and in a recording situation the effect of having it dimed like that is something that can be achieved at lower settings. IMO

interesting little fact:when I crack the output that high the eq controls on the amp become MUCH less responsive and the powertubes sound takes over

on my tremoverb combo at 10 o'clock it's insane loud. I'm playing with another guitarist in a metal project and live or in the reh space I have people hiding. That's with the Red channel gain at 1pm & 100 watts, even at 50 with tubes pulled it's pretty much the same volume.

i see most people on this board running their gain at around 1'oclock normally. i dunno maybe it's just me but i always have mine at about 3 o'clock plus the maxon od808 running full time (gain off and balance around 1 o'clock) my volume is usually 10 or 11 o'clock. NS-2 is on all the time to keep things quiet when i want them to be

I've done this with my Triple Rectifier, and holy hell it is AWESOME. Not in the way you'd expect though. For tighter metal, I'd say about 11 is the sweet spot, with the gain between 1 and 3. But, for unbelievable classic rock tones, put the gain at 9 or 10, and crank the output with some EL34s in there!! Absolutely incredible sound coming out of the amp! People talk about Strats not working very well with the Rectos? Well try this and see for yourself!

For practical applications, the only way I could see this working well for tighter metal would be to have at least a full stack. With the V30s, I've found that at a certain point, they just break up too much and don't sound good. I'm thinking about buying another Recto 4x12 and doing just this - wearing musician's earplugs of course - because I love the way it feels to stand in front of something that can push so much air!

i too have found myself standing in front of my stack reveling in the massive sound wave emitting from the cabs.... with earplugs in of course
