YAY

You can't really tell how it sits in a mix because well, there is no mix haha.

1960 Les Paul Goldtop reissue with upgraded dimarzio/bursbucker pickups
DC5 Lead Channel into a Genz Benz 2x12 v30s. No Pedals.

I tried the 6ft technique. One SM57 near the grille, and one about 6ft back, mixed about -10db relevance to the close mic.
This is the first time I've ever tried this. I think I got lucky and didn't get phase problems, but it gave a pretty unexpected mid boost that you'll hear in the track a little bit.

Comments are much appreciated.

Thanks,
NSK

As Requested. The settings used for this recording:

Hey, I love the sound! Do you also use any additional EQing like MXR KFK 10-band for this track? If so, please post the settings of it as well.
Thanks,
Danijel

Actually no effects on this one. This one was the DC5 and I might have run it through the genz benz. But all my effects are usually out in my bands practice space with my live rack, so I usually only record the DC5 when my rig isn't home.

My personal advice on the KFK, sweep the highest slider down about half way (i don't remember hte freq), and adjust the 250 a little bit. Your amp can do most of the rest of the work and just slightly for taste. I use it more of a filter than an EQ haha.

Thanks for the comments. I'm posting a Mark IV clip right meow.

Sounds pretty good man! A little on the brittle side, but not too bad. Could try EQ'ing down the 6600hz area by a couple dBs.

Also, if you record your two SM57 mics to separate tracks, you can align their phases after you record them. Might get a better sound that way. Generally, mixing two mics of different phases doesn't yield very nice results...

Ya, the stereo mic technique can add a little "bigness" to the guitar track, but can easily add some mud. I've leaned away from that in recent recordings just because it can easily lose some clarity.

I think this is one of the later mixes of that riff:
