I'm no stranger to tubes themselves, but the brands I have trouble with. Could anyone fill me in on the general characteristics of the sound of each tube? For example, Electro Harmonix's are bright, Mullards are "3-D", etc. etc. Thank you!

Way to go dodger for bringing this one back!! Thom's tube types and tone report ought to be a sticky! That kind of knowledge is valuable and was attained by doing it, not just parroting the words of others!

Yeah thank you for this info Dodger. Well, thank you for pointing me in the direction of Timbre Wolf's info. Think I might have to assault him with pm's in the next few days.

Many sellers, such as Tube Depot, Tube Store, etc., have reviews on their site.

One maaaaaajor difference...Timbre Wolf is not a dealer, rather, he is a player who is passionate about learning and sharing with others...

Oh I've definitely been reading reviews. Mainly on the tube store. I think I've found the perfect tube cocktail that I'm looking for. I just hope it doesn't sound too compressed. For anyone that's bought from the tube store, do they accommodate Mesa users well? That is to say, will they select power tubes within the correct bias if you ask? How is their customer service? I've sent one of the guys a couple emails about different tube types and some reverb driver/ P.I. tube advice.

This evil thread started my addiction to vintage tubes. I have it bookmarked of course!
