In the original IIC+ manual they recommend that tube! Obviously the STR-420's are great but hard to find. I bought some inexpensive Chinese tubes for my MKIV from tubes and more and they sound very close to my 420's.
I've been using the Svetlana winged C's for years, but the price of them has gone way up, so I'm looking for a good sounding alternative. Exactly which Chinese tubes did you buy?I bought some inexpensive Chinese tubes for my MKIV from tubes and more and they sound very close to my 420's.
They should sound fine, but make sure you get a pair or quad that idle correctly for the Mark IV fixed biases. Groove Tubes sells a GE 6L6 that can drop in to a Mark IV. Just get distortion ratings or 4, 5 or 6 and you're good.druckpig said:GE 6l6GC How will they sound in a mk IV are they suitable has anyone tried them with any success

thanks for that
Ive never checked but I am sure I read somewhere that the MKIV is biased quite cold do you know if thats correct ?
I usually bias my own amps but as the MKIV is fixed bias I havent bothered to check the readings yet but will be doing so soon as I have some tubes due to arrive soon
if boogie sell there tubes to fit the amp then what sort of bias range are they falling into ,whats the plate voltage of a MKIV and where should the bias point/idle current ma range be with a boogie 6l6 gc
