I have a question to anyone thats familiar with the GCX switcher.. I just picked one up, its on its way, and what id like to do with it is switch between amps more than effects. I have a few rack processors but, also have a lonestar head, digitech valve fx rack with a recto 2:100 going to a cab and a mark head on the way. Is that thing capable of switching between the 3 rigs? So far ive only seen setups with one head and all effects, no one has been switching between heads. Any insight on this?

I have my rig set up to use one, two or three amps.
Depending on my needs.
Take a look at the manual, it's in there.

I have about a dozen amps and use them all depending on the gig.
Most of the time I use two amps.

I read through the book a few times online while im waiting for it to arrive. All the book shows is either pedals or preamps and at the end of the loop it ends up going out to one amp head. Would I assume after, say, I use 1-5 for preamps and pedals that the sends on 6-8 could go to different heads?

there are 8 independent loops, so you can wire it up in any configuration you need.
but this thing doesn´t have a load box, so you must have at least one cabinet connected to each head or poweramp you are using.
and it´s not build to switch the complet amp. this means, you can switch the signal to the different amp inputs or loop the preamp-sections of your heads (e.g. loop1 sent to input head, send head to loop1 return), but don´t loop the complet amp (e.g. loop1 send to input of the amp, speaker out to the loop1 return).

I figured I could. Ive had a rack for years but now ive got my rack with the recto 2:100 and a cab, the lonestar and the soon mark v. I want to be able to run a tc gmajor to all 3 of the heads and switch between them. The only way I could figure out how to send a signal to each head and use one at a time was to use the send on each loop of the gcx after the chain of effects in loops 1-5. I assume that would be the correct way. This thing seems more like a signal switcher to run to one head instead of putting in some effects and then running the signal to 2 or 3 heads. But its sounds like it will work.

I believe it well do what you want.

I wired mine a lot of ways before I did this and this is what I do....

Using the splitter
Loop 1 - Dry ~ power amp distortion
THD - Flexi or Bivalve here most of the time.
I turn this amp on and off for the sound I need.

Then front pedals in loop 2 ~ etc.
Then I loop 1 or 2 preamps
Mark IV, Tremoverb, Trident or VHT Sig X ~ goes here most of the time.
Then effects loop effects.
I then use the one or two power amps as mono or L/R.

This gives me a wet/dry or w/d/w set up.
I tend to use a w/d.

My amps are 5 to 150 watts and I take what I need for the gig.
I like having two amps live.
If one goes down ~ I can get by with one.

This is how I use 1, 2 or 3 amps.

can anyone post a real rig schematic? this kind of stuff gives me a headache, I tried to dream up a schmatic for this guy but i couldn't. if i had to do this myself i'd used the Midi Matrix. have all the pre's (including head pre's) in the parallel loop and the FX in the serial. I once tried that with my Triaxis and Dual rec. i could run either into the Rec's poweramp with FX. For myself, I'm still trying to find an economical way to run: Recto, Triaxis, Studio Pre, POD and 2:90, but i only have 1 cab so i have to eliminate the 2:90.

I'd like to hear what you come up with bigbomb2u

later

You may want To take a look around here.
If you look at the stickys ~

I recently moved to a rack set up and went with RJM 16 as it will switch 2 seperate amps' channels with one cable each.

That being said, I spoke with folks at voodoo and they are very helpful. Give them a call and they can diagram your rig for you.

Are you still looking for someone to draw up a schematic for you? I can do one if you like.

check out voodlabs website they have a few drawings of diagrams.
