I am going to buy the G-major rack unit and the Behringer FCB1010 midi foot controller. Along with midi cable. Is there anything else I will need so that I can set it up to change channels on my amp as well? Or something else little I might need.

Will be set up to my 3 channel dual rec.

Thanks
AJ

That's the cable I use with my G-Major to switch channels on my 3 channel DR.

i might be wrong here, but i`ve read that the external switching jacks on recto`s need independant grounds for each jack or it will burn out the switching relays. this is why people get voodoo lab`s gcx or similar switching system

+1, i've used that cable for a year on my Single Rec with no issues.

Jon, do you know of any way to set up 4 channel switching so i don't need to use the footswitch and just program Ch1/Ch2/Ch3/Fx into the G Major patches?

You guys with the G Major...have you had any issues with it freezing up, bad control wheels, etc? I was considering purchasing this to run in the effects loop of my Mark IV but started reading the reviews on Harmony Central. Kinda scared me off!

You don't need to connect 4 switches to change all that, just use plugs on chan 1 and chan 3, chan 2 is the default channel, so when you have switch 1 on the g-major on it selects the clean channel, switch 2 will select channel 3 and when both switches are off it defaults to channel 2, then just have a few settings with no effects on, or just delay on with the mix level off. I run my return level at zero/off/minimum and use the output control on the g-major to get the mix lvl right (kill dry on) along with the mix lvl on individual effects.

I never thought of that. Is there a way to set up the g-major to use the Solo feature and Fx on/off.

So all I need is g-major of course the foot controller 1-midi cable and 1-stereo to dual mono plug and that's it.

Thanks for all the help guys hopefully this is the unit that I stay with. I cant seem to find a store with it in to try it out. Talk to a bunch guys with it and there happy with it .

Between the the 2 switches in the G-Major & the 2 switches in the FCB1010 you will be able to control 4 functions total.

Check out this FCB1010 Editor, it awesome! It's Java based so you might need that as well. The download link is about halfway down the page:
RipWerx Java Based FCB1010 Editor

I use an Axess CFX-4 to switch the 4 channels of my Roadster, and the G-Major to control FX Loop & Solo using the same Insert cable ToneAddictJon posted. It works great and gives me alot of flexibility with the amp. If I needed (or wanted) to I could use one of the FCB1010's switching relays to control the reverb too!

And yes, a 5 pin MIDI cable is what you need.

G Major Users-
Is the G Major effect blocks capable of being placed in the appropriate place in the effect chain; can you run the compressor or even a chorus before the preamp, or is the gmajor handcuffed to the effect loop? If it is held hostage to the loop, does anyone actually use the compressor? Is there a way to run the Gmajor 4CM?

Thanks

I went to order everything and the foot controller is out of stock till mid March :( . The only other one I found that people use with good results is the Midi mate the other one is pushing my price range and that is the Ground Control pro. These are in stock but dont know which to get. Should I just buy the g-major and play/learn it and then buy a pedal or will that make it harder to set up after I get the footcontroller.

Hang out with the G-Major awhile. You can still set up the G-Maj to change amp channels with the selected patch, so the only thing you lack is remote (MIDI) control. Unless you've got a gig coming up I would wait the 2 weeks.

IMO while you wait for your gear, go download the G-Major's manual.
http://www.tcelectronic.com/G-MajorManuals.asp
Read it. It will help if you get familiar with the way it works before you get it.

Have fun!

I went to practice today but stopped by the local GC first and what do you know they had a g-major in stock and I bought the Ground control pro with it.
Spent 2 hours on it and im so lost on how it all works my brain hurts. Thanks for everyones help. If you would share your knowledge on setting up the 2 together I am posting a new thread so I might figure this thing out a little
