I was thinking about buying a couple of NOS 12AX7's for my DC's.

I have found that a really nice NOS tube in V4 can open the Clean channel up like nothing else.

The ones I wanted are $85 each + shipping. That is some serious supply & demand.

I just happened to be cleaning my workshop and found an old Bogen PA that somebody basically gave me for $20.

It just happened to have 2 good ECC83's that say Great Britain on them.

The only other markings are the word 'Bogen.'

.....and the numbers....
163
87C1

Do any of you guys know what these numbers mean?

The DC-10 now sounds so close to my 66 Fender Pro Reverb that it is scary.

:D To think this day started off crappy, with an angry pregnant wife. Now I'm too happy to care.

Here is what a friend at the Marshall Law forum said:

They're Mullards
I63 = type 12AX7 starting in June '64 until end of production.
B7C1 = Blackburn plant, 1st week of March, either '67 or '77 (Would have to see the label to know)

Sometimes good things happen to mediocre people.

yeah, finding useable tubes in awesome.
i found this gigantic furnature like radio/record player/reel to reel in the garbage in my condo complex once.
i kicked open the rear pannel, and saw a tube power amp.
so i ripped that sucker out and found a quad of sylvania el84's and like 5 sylvania 12ax7's. only one was microphonic, the rest worked great!
then i sold the tubeless power amp on ebay for 40 bucks
i wanted to go back and gank the speakers out of it too and sell those, but it was gone.

i also found a ton of tubes in my fiancees dads (RIP) storage garage.
a deut of siemens el34's (that stonge has in his c+), and some telsa ecc83's that sound so tasty.

What a freaking day.

I just got back to cleaning my work room, which is now in my attic.

I found 2 Westinghouse USA 12AX7's and Phillips USA 12AX7.

I thought it was cool when porno fell out of the ceiling when we ripped it down. This is too good. :D :D :D :D :D :D

Maybe I'll find some Mullard EL34's.
