flubby sound at low E string

hi,

I need to get your advices about my problem.

I get a muddy sound from low E string especially from ch2. I turn bass knob to 0 and and it gets better a little. ?t is still bearable but I am not getting a clean sound still.
Do I have to check the tubes?
Do I have to think that speakers are not still brokenthat my amp and speakers are quite new? vertical 2*12
Or do you advice to take my guitar to a luthier? Gibson les paul custom

Are you below standard tuning?

Maybe you need to adjust your pickup height? The height from your pickups to your strings should fit a nickel in between, then adjust lower if it's too muddy.

Is your action too low? If so, you'll get that wobbley and muddy string sound going on.

Hmm..what else..

What is your settings on the amp?

+1 on that. 2 things that don't go well with Mark amps: Drop tunings (Below D), and poorly adjusted, or just plain crappy pickups (EMG's included). If you like that sort of thing, maybe a Dual Rec is more your speed.

Even with good pickups Mark V makes a big difference(cannot explian why maybe Photi can).I switched on my G&L Comanche bridge PU(you know the Z-MFD ones) to Will Ray-->on my other(many) amps a bit of difference-->on the Mark V a huge difference even in voicing

So make sure that pickup height,setup (including intonation) is good

I have a Mark IV and a 7 string tuned half step down that disagrees with that in a big way lol...also pickups aren't everything, the cab and speakers matter alot as well.

I play in drop C and the Mark V keeps up well. Not sure what could be the issue, possibly bad power? Tube amps tend to act differently when they get bad power. Besides that are you using your Geq? Where is the left slider at?

I also read in a thread around here that changing the stock tubes make a HUGE difference.

I wasn't intending to imply that Mark series don't take drop tunings...hell, I play drop-tuned exclusively with 2 Mark IIIs. :lol:

I was just asking if the drop tuning could be the cause of his 'flubbiness'.

Neither was I. I guess I kinda started a bit of a shitstorm there. :roll: Really what I meant was that you will lose a lot of definition when in drop tunings, or using a 7-string, as Boogies have a very tight bottom end, and don't articulate very well in the sub-low region. Hell, they were originally designed to be Lead amps, anyway. The 90's era Mesas, Mark IV and Recto, is where Mesa discovered that their amps were suited for metal, so that's when they extended the lower register, and compressed the mids.

Unless I'm misunderstanding something,I would have to disagree on most of that man..especially on the losing definition and not articulating well in drop-tunings. If anything, the Mark series are very tight and articulate (even dropped-tuned), including the old Mark series. You get the right speakers/cab,guitar,pups,tubes,etc and your 'in like flynn'. Mesa was definitely aware of the metal players, especially coming from the IIC+ transition to the III in the early to late 80's. They were pretty big in the metal scene ( Anthrax,Stryper,Metallica). The 90's was just a whole new introduction to a new sound--hence the Rectifier.
