Hi guys
I have a progression like that = Am Dm Am E7

I want to give that progression a solo with a flamenco kind of sound.
Whem Im playing Am and Dm I simply solo in C major but
what scales do you recomend over E7 ?

Thanks

Instead of playing C major, play A minor. It's the same notes but it's harmonically more correct to call it A minor on this chord progression.
On E7 switch to A harmonic minor. That's the A minor scale with a g# instead of a g.

thanks pinweaver but I already did that.
I am looking for something different .

Hey Sombra , if you'd like to make your progression have a more flamenco vibe maybe beef up the chords, I mean, E7 ? I like to call these barber shop chords, might I suggest adding the b9 to the E7, and adding the 9th to the Am .. and so on, once you've beefened up your chords and gave them better colouring trying using the G# Arabic scale.. or as some people like to call it G# Symetrical or maybe use the B diminished scale, it's nto so much the notes you play but it's how you play it,

I agree with nick.cor but if you let me, i tell you...use the phrygian, the 6Mphrygian(second mode of melodic minor), and the most scale used in flamenco is dominant phrygian (5mode of armonic minor), its called spanish phrygian and is: 1,b2,3,4,5,b6,b7

listen to vicente amigo or paco de lucia to get the vibe.

Hey nick Im using barber shop chords because my keyboard player is playing the non barber shop chords

The Am is an Am9 on the keyboards but if everybody plays the same notes it will be boring

nick cor and aldo thanks but should I use these scales over the entire progression or over specific chords ?

thanks

its called spanish phrygian and is: 1,b2,3,4,5,b6,b7

I should use this scale over Am ?

It would be =

A - Bb - C - D - E - E - Gb ????

I dont ge it !

play the armonic minor of D over Am7b9 and check the sound, thats A dominant frigian

Ok and what about the other chords ?

These chords are fast so changing scales I think it will not work.

Maybe an scale to play over all chords !
thanks

D harmonic minor = B-C#-D-E- F#-G-Bb

Is it right ?
thanks

armonic minor is 1,2,b3,4,5,b6,7 and the harmony is : Im(maj7), iimtb5, biiimaj7#5, ivm7, v7, bvimaj7, vii dim.

so D armonic minor is-> D, E, F, G, A, Bb, C# hope this can help you :wink:

D Harmonic Minor
intervals: 1,2,b3,4,5,b6,7
half-steps: 2-1-2-2-1-3-1
notes: D,E,F,G,A,Bb,C#

Hey Sombra, from my understanding your chords derive from the Am ( minor chord family) but since you want that real flamenco sound, heres somethign you can try.. i really like to use this in my songs which also keep a latin vibe..it's the G# Arabian scale / G# symetrical diminished scale... I like to end it off using the B diminished scale, so it would sound something like...

frets

e-------------------------------------3 4 6 7 4 ---------------------------
b ------------------------------3 5 6 --------- 6 3 ----------------------
g -----------------------3 4 6------------------- ----- 4----------------------
d ----------------3 5 6------------------------------------6 3 --------------2
a --- ------4 5 7------------------------------------------------ 5 2 --------2
e ---4 6 7----------------------------------------------------------- 4 1 0

cool but can I use it over all my chords ?
My progression is kinda fast so I dont think changing scales will work !
thanks nick

well best way to find out if yo ucould use it over all the chords is to give it a try, i know you can't be using it over the other chords, BUT because of the dissonence that it provides on the E7b9 I don't think there will be much of differnce, anyways best of luck! :D
