I hear it, untill I lightly tap one of the powertubes, then it stops. What's wrong? (The amp is 7 years old, but has been never been used until I bought it a week ago.)

Thanks

EDIT: This doesn't happen RIGHT when I turn the amp on. I would have to have been playing for a while first.
It's got 6L6s, to put EL34s in there, I just swap them and turn the bias switch to EL34? Which Groove Tubes Rating should get for the amp?

(On a Mesa Nomad 55 head)

Sounds like a bad tube. If it's a Mesa I'd get a new set of tubes but if it's some other kind of amp I'd take it to a tech to get set up/biased.

Yea, it's a Mesa Nomad 55 head.
Would the Groove Tubes GT-6CA7GE Duet pack (medium) GT rating, be a direct replacement when I turn the Bias switch to EL34?

Thanks.

(Would taking out my current 6L6s and blowing on the bottom, damage them/help them?)

I know that Mesa tubes will work without having to take it to a tech. I don't know about GT tubes.

Nope. What Mesa does is they select and rate all of their tubes so that they will all run at the same bias setting. So as long as you use Mesa tubes in a Mesa amp you don't need to have a tech bias the amp. If you use a set of tubes from a company other than Mesa you should probably take the amp to have it biased... which I'm not even sure they can do without modifying the amp because Mesa amps, as far as I know, have a fixed bias.

Owch...
So how are the Mesa users on the board using JJ/GT/ etc tubes? :?:

Groove Tubes with a rating between 4 and 7 will work fine. The higher the number, the later the power tube will distort as you push them harder.

Oh ok, so with the medium rating, I just have to flick the switch to EL34 and I'm done?

Yes. Check out this sticky thread, the very first post by Guitarzan.
