Hey guys!

Got a half an hour home alone today, so I took the time to crank up the Mark IV a bit :)

Mesa Mark IV ---> Mesa Traditional 4x12 with Beamblockers

Recorded with a Sennheisser e609....I really don't like this mic alone, and MUCH prefer the punch I get when paired with my SM57, but I left my 57 at my bassists house :(

Lead channel (no GEQ) with my Ibanez SZ720 w/ Dimarzio Evo, tuned down to C# standard.

Also did the drumming with my Roland V-drum kit.

Let me know what you think....it's a short little cover of Chevelle's "Comfortable Liar"...didn't have time to do anymore :(

Pretty nice sound you got going there for owning it for only a week or so. Keep it up man.

I think it sounds pretty good, but you might benefit from close micing the cab with just the SM57 and double tracking with the record out possibly. Pretty nice for your first time recording with the Mark IV! Keep it up...

Yea I though it was overly bassy and muffled. B U T the Mark IV is new to you so I won't hold that against you. :D

Sennheisser e609 + SM57 + Recording out...

Thanks for sharing.

Dude try recording it again without the beamblockers. The blockers sound great live but give you all kinds of phasey nastiness when micing. Especially if you are close micing.

Agreed! Beam blockers are fantastic for live use. The folks in the front row really appreciate them!!!! However, when close micing you do have to approach it a bit differently. The whole on-axis / off-axis thing is completely changed because of the way the sound waves are deflected by the beam blockers. For the 4x12 you may consider leaving one of the speakers uncovered to make close miking easier on that speaker. This is helpful if you mic up live too. Having 3 out of 4 covered with beam blockers will still help ballance your sound out immensely.
