Extreme mode is now my favorite on channel 3.

I liked the saturation and smoothness of Mark IV mode, but like the low end thump and punchiness of Extreme. I've been using Mark IV, but have been playing more and more with Extreme. Lately I've just tried shameless cranking the gain, treble, and mids up very high on Extreme, and I like what I hear. It sounds to me a like a hybrid of the two, and works well for both solos (I use a boost for a touch more sustain) and rhythm (unboosted).

Settings:
Extreme
90 W
Pentode
bright on
G: 5
M: 9 (need this low to balance with other channels)
P: 10:30
T: 3:00
M: 3:00
B: 10:30

Well, maybe I spoke too soon.

I guess I'd say that I like Mark IV for leads and Extreme for rhythms. However, with my Strat, Extreme mode seems to work better.

Hmm, I find your settings pretty interesting, with the gain and the mids that high. I wish it wasnt midnight so I could try them lol. But anywayz, it sounds interesting, your settings and your goal with those settings that is. I have also been getting more interested in trying to use the Extreme mode, but whenever I use it I always feels like its kind of sterile or dry, which isnt always bad but I don't particularly care for it always. I just keep reading these posts praising the Extreme mode and its making me curious. For my settings and guitar I like the Mark IIC+ mode the most because it retains a good amount of saturatioon and heaviness without getting muddy which I find to be the case sometimes with the Mark IV mode which just causes me to add a little more presence for a quick on-the-fly fix. And for the most part I like the Extreme mode but it just sounds a little to dry usually, so your goal of getting a bit more saturation in the Extreme mode while still retaining that "low end thump and punchiness " sounds cool. Your settings are interesting you seem to be one of the first the that I have noticed to kind of break the norm with that much dialed in with the mids knob, I look forward to trying them, thanks for posting them.

You and I are in the same boat. I stuck with IV mode for the longest time and Extreme was the last mode I really have a chance to, but now love it. I love IIC+ mode as well. I literally stress out before gigs and practices because I am unsure of which mode to use, I love them all that much

And also like you, I love IV for leads and Extreme for rhythm. However I will try this mid boost you are talking about for Extreme mode.

Try dialing in channel 2 (crunch) to sound like channel 3 and see if you like it. To me it sounds similar to MkIV mode but with the mids notched differently, which works great for tight ass rhythm guitar.

I'm having the hardest time doing that. I can't get crunch to sound Mesa-ish. It always sounds Marshallesque to me. And it doesn't seem to get into modern metal territory without a boost.

I think the solution is to get a second Mark V and switch between the two.

I think it sounds very Mesa-ish... it just doesn't sound very Recto-ish.

I could achieve that the crunch mode on ch2 sounds like the extreme mode on ch3, the only thing that I could not do is adding the bottom end that ch3 has, but in the mix that is not noticiable!

I love the extreme mode for my B tuned guitars.my E/D tuned guitars do sound better in IIc+ and IV modes

I was on Extreme mode for A WHILE. I liked it for rythm stuff.

Now I found a good setting on iiC+

the lead tone there is just a wolly mammoth on an antelope. You can get ******* pregenant with that sound.

What are your settings?

Personally, IIC+ tends to sound like the light beer version of IV, but it probably has to do with my settings.

Pentode - Tube Rec - Variac - 45w - sliders on - no reverb -

C90 speakers in mesa 412 - Ibanez Jem w/ breeds
