I finally gave extreme mode a chance and freakin' love it. I think the main problem was that my last cab just wasn't up to par with the one I have now. I also like that it's not mandatory to make drastic changes in EQ settings (other than master volume if you want to count that) from mode to mode. Mainly just presence adjustments.

I do however wish that modes were footswitchable. I love the harmonics of open chords with IV mode as well as the single note/lead tones, but have come to love the rhythm grit of extreme mode now. Being able to switch over to IV mode leads would be amazing. For a good while I never touched IIC+ and Extreme, but I am finally starting to use everything on channel 3. Extreme mode should almost be illegal for public use

Here is what I've been dialing in for Extreme:
Gain: 2:30-3:00
Master: 9:00-10:00 depending on venue
Presence: 11:00
Treble: 1:30
Mid: 11:00
Bass: 9:00

90 watts full power
EQ on with classic V shape, except I don't scoop mids completely. I push the mid all the way down and raise it just a little. I am going to do some experimenting with something else I have ignored, and that is the contour control.

Extreme mode frightens me!

Seriously though it is great, but extreme is the right word for it, only for the fact that they couldnt fit "Death by extreme gain" next to it on the amp!
I tend to go between IIC+ and MIV mode for leads but if I ever want to blow somebody to the other side of the venue I'll engage the extreme mode!

I leave channel 3 parked on Extreme mode and 90 watt, gain set anywhere between 9:am and 3:pm. Extreme can be pretty mellow too.

Yeah I was reading about the low gain sounds in the manual. I'll have to give it a try for the classic rock/low gain stuff some time.

I love all three modes. It always surprises me when I read about people trying the V and not being able to dial in a sound they like...

Those are the folks whose ears are only there to balance their heads-

This.

My biggest gripe. Or at least have IV mode on CH3 and IIC+ on CH2; just cuz I love those the most for my dirties. JMO

After having the Mark V for one day, I initially was thinking this, but after playing with it for a short time, I can't see how it would even work to make the modes switchable in their channel. each mode needs different EQ settings, almost completely. So even if you could footswitch them, the could be useless, for the most part, since you really do need to tweak between each setting.

or so it seems.
