External Switching for solo only (Triple Rec)

Is it possible to have an external switch for the solo boost only? In my band, I never leave channel 3 on my triple so I have no use for the whole pedal but I really want to keep the solo boost. I've never used the external switching and don't really understand it so small words are appriciated. I'd like to have something small that I can fit on my pedal board. I have a Pod HD500 used for effects only because love my rhythm tone with my other pedals ( Maxon OD808, MXR 10 band and ISP Decimator).

A simple spst throw switch plugged into the external jack with a 1/4 cable would work to activate the solo function. Like this http://mesa.stores.yahoo.net/fcrec.html
But you can find much cheaper options. Or if your the diy type the can be built for 15 dollars or so.

Are these pedels battery powered of 9v? I cant tell from the picture. I havent bought anything for my rig in over 2 years so Im itching to get something. Even if I'm overpaying for it. :roll:
