Can the Mark V pull out an Express 525 or 525+ crunch sound?
The crunch sound on the 525 is absolutely gorgeous but the cleans not so much. Cleans on the 550 however were really great but no 525 vintage style crunch there.
I tried the Mark V and channel 1 shoved some of the best clean sounds I've ever heard, right in my face. I was really surprised. But then I tried out ch2 and ch3 and had no luck(only had an hour to fiddle with it though). I was pretty disappointed by the somewhat blanket covered and/or sterile sounding ch2. Ch3 was easier to dial in but I still couldn't find a really nice crunch sound.
So my question is, does the 525 crunch hide itself in any of V's channels? Is it just a matter of dialing in? Or am I just experiencing the difference between 6L6's and EL-34's? And maybe the V30 vs C90 as well?
I hope not, that would mean I need a 6L6 and a C90 for my clean tones and a EL84 and a V30 for my crunch....kinda expensive. I don't have the money or space to dish out for both the 525 and 550.
What say ye, gentlemen?
