Hi,

I have owned an Express 5:25 for the last two months. I love the sound as is but sometimes I'd like to open it up a little, it's a tight combo that can sound a tad boxy if the contour is turned off or set low.

If I had the cash I'd try everything from 1X12, 1X15 2X10, 4X10...I'm interested to know if anyone has used other cabs with this amp and what the results were. I'm basically interested in Mesa cabs just because they seem to match their speakers well but I'm open to other suggestions.

Thanks,
Dan

Had the same amp, plugged it into a boat load of stuff

the Rectifier cab was also way too boxey also
tried that cab with a C-90, Greenback and V30
all were ehhh

plugged it into my LSS with Weber Blue Dog
ok here, like the LSS better for clean, the 5:25 for
tighter higher gain

favorite was plugging into my Deluxe Reverb
has a Jensen C12k, great all around tones
great classic Rock, great cleans

me, I'd go open back cab, like the lonestar open back, and choose your speaker for the tone you're lookin for

i plug mine into a closed back avatar 2x12 with greenbacks and love it. i can't turn it up too loud, i think the EL84s get too whispy, but at lower volume i love it. i want to check out some 10s to swap in the combo. but who makes a good 10? i'd been wanting to ask if you guys had any luck with "aftermarket" tens.

Thanks guys. I'm a mainly a clean blues player so I like the description you gave of the C12k, rickc007.

Vatoben, why a closed back cab over open? As for good 10" speakers, the stock E50 is actually a good, well regarded speaker. However, Eminence does make other excellent ones. There are descriptions at http://www.eminence.com/guitar.asp?speaker_size=10and sound clips at http://www.eminence.com/soundclips.asp . I'm unfamiliar with other makes.

sorry, the descriptions are at http://www.eminence.com/guitar.asp?speaker_size=10

vatoben, got these choices from ToneQuest report, all 10"

Jensen Reissue C10Q
WeberVST C10Q, C10N
Celestions
Eminence 50 watt ceramics
Mojo 50 watt ceramics
