Hey everyone I just bought a mark series 212 cab but it came with the dreaded Eminence "vintage" speaker on bottom. I am trying to source a EV used and was wondering if there is a difference the EVM 12L that came out of a PA speaker as opposed to one that came out of a guitar cab.

Thanks,
Greg

I don't know specifically on this one spkr. OTOH, what I do know is that EV does make spkrs specific to PA applications. Thus, my guess is that the PA EV12 spkr will be more "full range" than the EVM12L vocied for guitar cabs (and thus a guitar amp's freq range).

EV just reissued the 12L Classic at 200W with an 80Hz to 7kHz range.
The only other 12L specs I have seen were 200W with an 80Hz to 6kHz range. The 300W Black Label is 80Hz to 7KHz.

Yea I can't find any specs specifically for the speaker I am looking at. I was reading that some people compared the Eminence Delta 12(which is listed as a PA speaker on the eminence site) to the EV 12L and said the tone was very similar so that lends me to believe that 12L's are just PA speakers that happen to sound good in a guitar cab. I read an instruction manual for an old EV PA speaker but it didn't list the frequency responses seperately for the woofer and the horn. The manual also stated a max power handling of 100watts so this must be tied directly to the crossover and horn and not the 12L. I thought this was strange but I know people that use bass cabs for their guitars and are happy (of course as long as the horn is disconnected).

If I don't get a 12L I might consider the eminence Delta's.

So i bought an older EVM 12L off of ebay today for $78. I hope that it works for me and then I can leave my cab alone. I will report in when it arrives and I can test drive it. Thanks for the replies!

The Eminence Delta is the closest match to the Mesa Black Shadow MS-12, which was supposed to be the 150W replacement for the 12L. It was made by Eminence and had the Knight Riding a Horse graphic. It's and awesome speaker.
