We played a rather large gig earlier tonight, kicking off the area's Bikes, Blues and BBQ rally (big time biker rally....250K + bikers expected this year).

Anyhoo.....about halfway through the first set (of 3), Brad's (the singer) Hotrod Deluxe just DIED. So we had to limp through the rest of the set with him playing in acoustic mode through his Parker to the board. That was strange, in itself.

During the break, the soundguy hooked his pedals up to a DI, and tweaked it to where it sounded pretty good out front, and just enough in our monitors. So Brad was once again able to run both distortion sounds AND acoustic sounds at the same time (which is our usual setup).

The rest of the gig went very well. Unusually well, actually. Key note....if any of you guys ever play a biker rally....make sure 'Rebel Yell' is in the setlist. Seriously :D

I had a real odd gig experience once awhile back.
My band got hired by a personal friend for her husbands
big birthday bash aboard a cruise boat.
We were to get on the boat, start playing and we were to pick
up the client (my friend) and her husband downriver (it was a
suprise see.....).
Well, the captain of said boat informed us as we were setting up
that we, the band were to be treated as part of HIS crew and could
not visit the bar or eat with the party-goers etc...we were to eat with
his crew at the end of the cruise. This was not the wishes of my friend
who hired us but as they were not on board yet, I just played it cool for
the time being after trying in vain to reason with and explain this to the
little captain prick. Anyway, my "hired-gun" well-known locally keyboard
player (who also brought the PA) upon hearing this news, GOT OFF the boat
and left us with a big PA still not working. So we're down a man, we have
to work and work to get the PA figured out, it was a nightmare. In the end
it all worked out musically but we didn't get to drink with the fellow cruisers as I didn't want to make a fuss and ruin my clients night over it.
Subsequently, I had people call me and want to know what I HAD DONE to
this keyboard player guy!!! Sheeesh. I was basically called a liar when I tried to explain what went down. It sucked. Got paid real good though and bought a new practice amp with the dough. 8)
