EL34 recommendations for roadster

OK it's time for a retube and the stock Mesa 6L6s are going to be a thing of the past - i have decided to check out EL34s for a while

Any recommendations on EL34s that work well with roadster?

Ruby EL34 BSTR's are nice. Nitrobattery uses a Ruby but I forget which version. The preamp tubes are an important aspect to your tone as well but each player has their preference.

Keep in mind, if your Roadster is still under warranty, anything other than Mesa or Groove Tube will void it.

I much pefer the JJ EL34L over the the Mesa EL34's and keep in mind you should always stick the stock boogie tubes back in for any kind of warranty work. They will not be able to tell you've had non-boogie tubes in it unless you send it in that way.

Not to pick nits, but if the non-Boogie tubes cause the malf, won't it be rather obvious when you take the amp in with a tube-caused problem, but the tubes are perfectly fine? Sorry, just trying to cause trouble.

true but i'll just leave it for them to figure it out. I would rather run the small rish of using better sounding non-mesa tubes than to settle for the less than mediocre tone of stock tubes. And before anyone chimes in on it because I know they will......I did not buy my mesa because I liked the way stock mesas sounded. I don't. I bought one without even playing through it after hearing my buddies that had been completely retubed and Yanked everything accordingly as soon as I got it home. I already had most of my tubes beforehand.

Guess I might be the only few ones that like the stock valves. Also, techies generally can work out if you used a wrong set of valve ratings on your amp, unless they are inexperienced or something...

I prefer the JJ E34Ls. You can run them very hot too and they will handle it.

Any good tech will be able to tell if you burned out a component because of a tube. If you go in with a burnt screen resistor which indicates a blown tube, and your tubes are all good, he'll know something is up.

In all reality, if you use tubes rated for a Mesa, you shouldn't have any problems.

Hey i also have tung-sol el34b on my amp and i think they sound better than my old mesa 6l6's tubes, el34 sounds much better to me, preamp tubes are a big deal as well i have on v1 ei 12ax7eg (great tube) v2 gt 12ax7 v3, v4 mesa 12ax7, v5 old tung-sol 12at7. this convination is the winner for me out of all the tubes i have. and o yeah is a dual recto 3 channel what a tone, this convine with a mesa rectifier cab 4x12 v30 is heaven for me, cheers!!

I dont have a roadster, but the SED =C= EL34's rocked in my 2ch Recto. I liked these better than the JJ and mesa 34's

I have a set of Mesa 34's for my triple. They aren't bad.....just no where near the best out there. All they are is relabeled Sovtek WXT+ EL34's. I find them to be on the thin side as far as tone goes. They definately took away too much of that Recto Low end. I think the JJ EL34L's are tons better, as they retain almost all of the low end of the 6L6GC's but have a smoother top end and the nice EL34 mid crunch.

I've also heard good things about the Tung Sol as mentioned before... I've never used their power tubes but I have used the preamp tubes and liked them.
