EL-34s in a Recto....

I use to have Roadking, and tried mixing EL34's with 6L6's and i wasnt impressed. I also tried just EL34's, and it seems with EL34's you loose some gain, and it is just not as brutal. I think the recto truly sounds best with 6L6's.

I tried EL34s.....it moved the midrange up the spectrum a bit, but they compressed faster and didn't have the same thump to palm mutes. I took them back out.

Its all apples to oranges . I prefer the EL 34's way over the 6L6s . It comes down to the type of sound you want . I personally do'nt go for the over excentuated low end thump . I also prefer the traditional cab to cut back some of the thump . Experiment and pay attention to your ears . You'll find what you are after .
