Under the Big Sky...
Hey all- Been planning on throwing some EL34's in my Roadster, and I think tomorrow is the time- many of you run el34s in the rectos- I was just wondering if I am going to need to completely re-dial in my channels, or should it sound fairly similar with my current settings, but with the characteristics of the El34's (less bass, little more grain, little tighter...)?
I appreciate your help.
Another thing- I am only able at this time to check out the Mesa EL34's- is this a concern? Some people dont "love" the Mesa branded EL34s....

Yes, you'll have to change your settings again. I personally don't find that EL34s makes the tone of the amp tighter sounding or whatnot, it depends...

I'm also quite happy with those STR450 EL34s meself...

I just put some el34s i n my roadster last week, gigged with it last night and it sounded amazing. used the brit grind from the manual on ch2 with a little less presence than they recommend, ch3 i used the liquid solo setting for my main heavy rythm, ch4 was just too heavy for last nights gig, but its great sounding too....first night that i didn't listen and think that maybe i need a little more or less of something. I don't use an eq in the loop and just use a boost for solos, some delay here and there, and some compression.

You know- after 1 day, maybe 2 hours at best, I think the EL34s may be staying in the amp.....it seems to my ears that the 3 and 4 channels really sound crisper, and dont rely as heavily on an outboard EQ. The brit mode for the first time is useful, though cant hold a candle to the Stiletto in any capacity.
Overall, I am really very impessed, and that is with the 447 Mesa tubes.
More time is obviously needed, and I wont play out until later this week, but I think it is gonna be good-

The Brit mode with 6L6s still make sense, think a fatter and clearer sounding Marshall Vintage Modern... :D
