Effects loop quandry

Hi all, my first post here. Great forums with great info! I just bought a boss dd-3 delay pedal, and I am running it through the effects loop of my Series 2 Single Rectifier. The problem I'm having is that the only way to get a good delay sound is to have the effects loop mix almost turned all the way up to the "wet" signal (90%). Problem with that is that it makes my dry signal without delay sound HORRIBLE...very muffled and muddy. Turning it to 50% or less makes the delay almost nonexistent. I have tried turning the delay level all the way up when the loop mix is lowered, but I can barely hear it. I double checked all the send/return hookups, and everything is as it should be. I tried it out front after my overdrive pedal and it's too "in your face" and I lost that "spacey/airy" sound in my leads that I like in the effects loop. Where should I go from here? I want to HEAR my delay in my solos, but I'm at a loss. Thanks in advance!

just do the simple fx-serial-loop-mod.
it works fine on my rectoverb II, never could get a good delay / dry sound with the parallel loop as well.
unscrew the chassis, turn it upside down, remove the right wire of the mix-pot and solder the left-wire to the center of the mix-pot.
reinstall the chassis and you´re ready to go with a serial loop.

My bandmate also has a Single Rectifier and a Boss delay (not sure which one). Out of curiosity, I can check his settings later if I find the time.

But I agree, a serial loop is more comfortable ...

I have the Boss DD-3 and a couple of other pedals in my effects loop of my Single Rec Series II. I fought with the parallel effects loop (mix knob) for years. I found out about the serial loop mod a couple of years ago and modded my amp. It is very easy to do yourself. I called Mesa and they emailed me the instructions. The pedals sound great in the loop now and the mix knob is bypassed, so you just dial your pedals in.

I use a Keeley True Bypass Looper in the effects loop and run the pedals that go in the loop through it. This setup acts like an effects loop on or off switch since the Single Rec doesn't have a loop on/off function. I notice a bit of a signal drop off when I have the loop engaged so I run a Boss GE-7 in the loop to boost the signal. I leave the lows and highs flat and bump up the mids a little for a mid boost for solos as well. Hope this helps....

Thanks a lot guys. I think I might try the serial loop mod. Brich do you think you can email me the instructions you got from Mesa if you still have it? I'll PM you my email. Also, does the serial fx mod affect the dry signal AT ALL when the loop is engaged but the pedal is off?

I find that there is a slight signal dropoff with my pedals plugged into the loop even if they are turned off since they are not true bypass, but it sounds way better than when it was parallel. I use the Keeley True Bypass Looper in the loop to bypass them while not using them (see link below). I use the GE7 in the loop to boost the signal a little and problem solved....it now sounds exactly the same with the loop engaged as with the dry signal. I believe it's a few decibals lower with pedals in the loop. You can run any kind of clean boost in the loop to makeup the difference if it's an issue. I tried the DD3 in front of the amp and it sounded terrible to me going into the dirty channel's preamp....it was a huge mess of sound.

The cool thing about the looper is you can turn certain effects on or off before and engage them or turn them off all at once while playing with one button instead of tapdancing.....Definitely helps out in live gigs. You can basically make custom patches.

Perfect, just what I needed. Does anyone know if this can be done on. Dual rectifier Maverick 2x12 combo?

You should be able to modify from parallel to serial on the Maverick. Basically, the mod bypasses the fx mix pot. You can call or email Mesa and they will email you the instructions. It's an easy mod that only took around 20 minutes to complete. You can PM me your email address and I can send you the mod for the Single Rec. It appears to be the same mix pot on both amps so I believe it would be the same.
