I have an early (I think it's early anyway) Rev. G 2 channel Recto head with 1 Meg Audio gain pots.
Serial #: R 00798x

I have always wondered why the 1st Recto head I had sounded so much better than the 2nd one. Both were Rev. G versions.
This amp looks completely stock. Can it be that they changed gain pots somewhere in the middle of Rev. G?

Not that it matters, but now I am thinking about changing the Orange channel's gain pot to a 250 Meg Audio to see if I can get warmer clean tones out of it.
If it only had reverb, it would be the perfect amp for what I'm doing with my band......
:D Maybe someone will want to trade, their TOV for my Rev. G!

That could be the case, or maybe one of the past owners switched out the pot?
This is interesting to say the least :?

The chassis looks completely stock.
I'm thinking that they either did not make the change to 250k until later, or this one was a fluke.
Either way, it's in the studio today to record our new demo! I didn't have time to mod the Orange channel and see if I can get warmer cleans out if it before recording, so I just used my DC-5 for the cleans and medium gain stuff.

Yesterday, when I got to the studio, I asked the owner how his Mark IVa combo was. I did some work on it a few months ago. He said that it had developed a new noise and he was tired of messing with it. He offered it to me for a really good price, so now the DC has to go. I've never really gotten along with IV's, but this one sounds really good! Gotta raise money for the IV.
I'll have a IVa and a Rev. G Dual Rec. Lots of great tones!

Here is a very poor picture of the Recto's chassis:

This is one crazy dual recto... maybe they went to 250k pots in the beginning of 1995? Or they ran out of 250k pots when this guy was built? :?
