INTRODUCTION
Hi guys. Well, i tried recording some clips to hear the difference in Dual Rectifier's tone
between the 100 watt modality (that is using the four 6L6s and the two rectifiers) and the
50 watt one (that is using two 6L6s and only one rectifier). Well, to record this clip i
used a Les Paul Standard (don't expect the greatest tones since strings used are very old
and not in perfect conditions, and also it isn't perfectly tuned - i should have it checked
out). This said, speaker cabinet is the Rectifier Standard 4x12. Concerning volume levels, i
almost always was able to keep output level at 3, except for the Modern Channel in 50W
modality, since, as usually happens, neighbours have come protesting. Well, let's start with
Clean channel in 100W modality, Clean modality. You can see EQ settings from the picture.
CLIP 01 - FIRST CHANNEL, CLEAN MODALITY, 100W
Ok, let's pass to the 50W clip with the same settings.
CLIP 02 - FIRST CHANNEL, CLEAN MODALITY, 50W
Well, now first channel (green) one more time, in Pushed modality, 100W.
CLIP 03 - FIRST CHANNEL, PUSHED MODALITY, 100W
Ok, now same settings, 50W. Sorry if clip is a bit shorter...
CLIP 04 - FIRST CHANNEL, PUSHED MODALITY, 50W
Ok, now second channel (orange), 100W modality, Raw mode.
CLIP 05 - SECOND CHANNEL, RAW MODALITY, 100W
Now, Same settings, 50W, a bit shorter.
CLIP 06 - SECOND CHANNEL, RAW MODALITY, 50W
Well, let's pass to Vintage modality of channel two (100W).
CLIP 07 - SECOND CHANNEL, VINTAGE MODALITY, 100W
Orange channel & Vintage mode one more time, this time 50W modality.
CLIP 08 - SECOND CHANNEL, VINTAGE MODALITY, 50W
Now Orange channel in Modern mode, 100W. It's a pity that volume levels don't
allow this mode to express its full potentiality, since there' a noticeable
increase of volume in this modality. The sound seems to "remain into the cabinet".
Although sound of channel two isn't the best, it's surely better than the third
in Modern mode, since this is the one which more suffers.
CLIP 09 - SECOND CHANNEL, MODERN MODALITY, 100W
Well, same settings, 50W modality.
CLIP 10 - SECOND CHANNEL, MODERN MODALITY, 50W
Ok, let's pass to the third and more aggressive Dual Rectifier channel. Now in
Raw 100W modality.
CLIP 11 - THIRD CHANNEL, RAW MODALITY, 100W
Same settings, 50W.
CLIP 12 - THIRD CHANNEL, RAW MODALITY, 50W
Now Vintage mode, 100W.
CLIP 13 - THIRD CHANNEL, VINTAGE MODALITY, 100W
Ok, now 50W, shorter clip, sorry...
CLIP 14 - THIRD CHANNEL, VINTAGE MODALITY, 50W
Ok, sorry if the last clip had been badly cut... And now the last two clips,
Modern Mode. You can hear that, being obligated to keep low volume levels, the
tone really suffers.
CLIP 15 - THIRD CHANNEL, MODERN MODALITY, 100W
Ok, now the last clip. I forgot to say that in these last clips I used a
very different equalization, trying to fit the style the modern voicing was
designed for. So, classic V: Bass & Treble at 10, Mid at 0. Now, the 50W clip:
CLIP 16 - THIRD CHANNEL, MODERN MODALITY, 50W
Et voilà, this was the last clip. Well, it seemed to me that this power reduction
from 100W to 50W doesn't influence that much sound quality. The difference is
very subtle in the first channel, but in the second and (specially) in the third
channels this power reduction helps in my opinion to get fuller and bigger sounds.
