I've been noodling around with an early 2000s (C+ on the PCB) dual rec I picked up a couple months ago, trying different cab/speaker types with it. I have a Mesa vert 2x12 which I pulled the V30s out of (not much of a V30 fan) and loaded an ASW Elegante on top. Sounded very good on the clean channel, but on channels 2 and 3, I could tell something was "off"...not a bad sound...passable, but as if a single alnico isn't the right speaker for a dual rec (duh!). Then I put one of the V30s back into the bottom position and things started to sound better...rounder. Well, on a lark I plugged into my Super Reverb's 4x10 cab loaded with Weber 10A125s up top and 10F150s on bottom. I was amazed at the full, rich sound...I don't know if it's my ears liking something different or 4x10 vs 2x12, but it was very nice. Granted I was running through an attentuator (2 to 4 ohm impedance match) and at basement volume (master at 9 o'clock).

Anyone else run their rec through alnico/ceramic mix?

I'm running my Mini Rec into a Mesa 4x10 with Jensen's. I'm using it for medium rock tones, and the vertical 2x12 was too harsh. The 4x10 sounds great. I still prefer the 2x12 for high gain, though.
