So after reading for months the comparison of EL34s > 6l6s.
And the Other members posts recently on here.. thank you to Eric which i have taken notes on almost everything you have had to say about the roadsters...i went out and did the same thing and it pretty much put my tone where i want it in the mix with my band now and i think im super happy about it.

So i Posted Clips of All my Channels Asside from Channel 2- of 6l6 mixes and then the Tung Sol EL34B's if you guys are curious to hear them i posted them on this net musician website

All nobs stayed the same, I basically have been using my Channel 3 Vintage for my main rhythm so the setting on Modern are a bit bassy, but im just saying i didnt change any eq from channel to channel to show the difference. I love the modern settings but in the past i have forced my self not to use them because they had a tendency to be a bit sluggy. But now i am liking the tighterness which is was i was hoping for and cant wait to start using the modern channels for gigs now.

I'm traveling with a very slow internet connection so I haven't had a chance to listen to the clip. Before I do I will point out that the EL34B is a relaxed mid EL34 designed to be similar to a 6L6. The Ruby EL34 BSTR is another tube similar to the 34B. They are a very musical, great sounding tube...but if someone is looking for the nice mid spike of an EL34, this is probably not the best option.

I'm real curious to hear the clip. I have the EL34B in a Marshall and I have my mids completely dimed and the classic Marshall crunch is barely there. I've been thinking about throwing them in my VTM 60 to see how they sound.

Thanks for posting that.

I think the EL34B sounds a little brighter and more aggressive than the 6L6. The 6L6 sounds darker/duller.

Based on your clips alone, I think I may like the EL34B a little better. But I also think some of the EL34B clips may have been recorded a teeny teeny bit louder the the 6L6 clips so that may skew my judgement.

Based on my experience with my amp, I think I may just stick with the 6L6. My amp is bright enough as is. Even though some of your brighter EL34B clips sounded better, I don't know that making my own amp brighter would be an improvement.

Yeah it does sound brighter and I feel it cuts a little better. My problem was my lead guitarist is running a 6505+ with a mxr eq. And his amp had what I would consider so much more bite. When we ran side by side mine would emit that darker not as punchy sound. And I think the el34s brought me to that level. I don't wana match exactly, but get a close sound but still different.

Got a chance to listen to the clips. Thank you for posting.

Def prefer the EL34 tone on the clips. It really tightens the bottom end.

I do think if you like that tone, give another type of EL 34 a trial. Recto's benefit from a more mid hump tube. YMMV of course.
