I took two tubes out of my dual so that I could go into 50 watt usage. I was wondering if there is any safety issue with the two open slots now. Should I cover them with something to prevent dust from getting into the slots? Could something like that cause damage or a fire if dust were to get into those slots?

Did you take out one rectifier tube too?

Speakers connected 4 ohms output from the head to 8 ohms output on the cab OR 8 ohm output to the 16 ohm output on the cab?

I think it is simple enough to put the cover over the amp when you are not using it.

I only pulled the two 6L6 tubes...do I need to pull the rectifier as well? I still have it going 8ohm into 8ohm...is that bad too? haha

Pulling two tubes changes how the amp 'senses' resistance. To 'reset' the impedance, you want to connect the speaker lead from the 4ohm output on the amp to the 8 ohm output on the cab.

Pulling the second rectifier tube will allow the tube rectifiers to impart their sag and added growl onto your signal. I'm a huge fan of running duals this way. It is better for lower volume stuff and you can start to get tube crunch at lower volumes. Try running the amp with one tube rectifier on spongy to see what I mean. Great for bedroom playing and nazi soundmen.

Is it necessarily a bad thing if I keep mine 8 - 8 ohm? I tried the 4ohm from the dual to the cab and I honestly preferred the sound of the 8-8...

Is it also a bad thing if I choose to keep both rec tubes in while there are only 2 6L6?

Sorry...I just want to know what is alright for the amp so that I don't destroy it.

What if the Amp has a half power switch like the new Dual Recto's? is it safe? does it drop another half down to 25 watts?
Nope. Flipping the power switch to 50w removes two power tubes and a rectifier tube while keeping impedences matched. If you removed a pair of tubes depending on which pair it is when you flip to 50w you will have either 50w or no sound.

No need to pull tubes in a Multi-Watt.

Leaving the impedance at 8ohm will just wear out your powertubes faster. Leaving both rectifier tubes in will give you pretty much the same response as diodes when you select tube rectifiers, neither senerio will hurt the amp.

hi!
im new here, and i have a quick question

when you pull out 2 power tubes 4ohm output on the amp becomes 8, 8 becomes 16.
so if i want to use 2 cabs they have to be 16ohms each plugged into 4ohm outputs on the head. (4ohm output is 8ohm since we pulled the 2 tubes)

have i got this right?

cheers!
