Apparently it is a 93 model, serial R-0020XX

Is this one of the "holy grail" 2 channel heads?

Revision F.

If the OT has 562100 stamped on it then it has a Mark III tranny, which is the 'holy grail' tranny.

If not then it probably has a Mark IV tranny in it.

I think the general consensus is that the 'holy grail' tone has more to do with the revision than any magic about the tranny since there are Rev F Rectos with both trannys and they're more or less the same.

Ok cool, I just found this one for sale too, at a cheaper price... Rev G is what the ad says.

I heard the Rev G has a bit looser low end, it's darker sounding but has a better clean than Rev F

I'm going to come out on record and say I don't think there is any real difference between the cleans on a revision F and G amp. I have both, and I re-drew the pcb boards of both amps. They are nearly identical and nothing with the pcb board changed that would affect the clean channel. It is possible that part selection changed but at that time Mesa seemed to go with what ever was handy and those changes could have happened at any time.

The F i owned was a triple. It ruled till it caught on fire. Ive owned a few G DRs. I dont know if was because the F was a triple, but it was smoother, a little tighter in the bottom (even though it had a bigger deeper bottom due to the fact its a triple) and a little less middy than the Gs ive owned. But these were very very small diferences. Never noticed a difference in the clean chs. The Gs were noticably tighter in the bottom than the 3ch I owned. My favorite Rev G I owned was a DR #145xx Rev G. Had big time mojo. But the triples are where its at IMO. Just like the stilettos too, I feel the tridents are the best ones

These amps seem to sound very "metal" anyway, and in the way that they may possibly get a bit lost in a live mix, a bit like Marshall's seem to...

My 3 Channel sounds killer with new power tubes anyway, so I will stick to what I know I think.

Would still like to try one out though, I think they would be great for studio work, would also like to try out a Triple Rec someday.

I thoroughly am enjoying my 2 channel triple rect after putting a fresh set of SED 6 x EL34's, new Zenith(RCA) 3 x 5u4G and VOS 5 x 12ax7 Mullard, Amperex, JAN Sylvania tubes. Although I've been turning down the gain to 10 o'clock. That seems to be getting me a warmer saturated distortion that I'm liking more. I intitially had it around 12
