I was listening to all the dream theater albums the other day and notice the rhythm on "Images and words" sound so much tighter than "Train of thought". I've never heard a triaxis in person so I don't really know how it sounds like. But from the album, it almost has a Mark type of sound to me.

Also this is weird but Petrucci mentioned in an interview that he thinks DR's lead tone is much smoother than the MK IIC+'s lead tone. This is quite opposite to what I believe. i traded in my DR to get a Mark IV b/c of the super lead tone. I never can dial in a usuable lead tone on my Dual rectifier.

Any comments?

Not necessarily. The Recto can be just as tight when dialed in properly, you just have to understand the EQ in it.

Petrucci did say that he preferred the Recto for leads over the IIC+. He said that the IIC+ was lacking a little saturation for him and it always required a boost in front, where as the Recto was smooth and had enough right out of the box, so he usually switched to the Recto (or occasionally Mark IV) when he tracked leads. I don't know specifics from each album, but someone did ask him about "Awake" at a clinic he did once and he mentioned that if he recalled correctly, the biggest portion of the lead work on that album was done with the 2 channel Recto in Vintage Mode.

I can believe it, the Orange channel of the early Dual Rec and Tremoverbs is really good. I wish I could find a nice Tremoverb head for a good price.

the triaxis is based on the mark line which is why you made that distinction. Like its been stated the recto can be tight if used properly but to be honest with you i find the triaxis and all the mark series amps to be tighter in general. There is less sag in the Mark which will off the bat make it a tighter amp so inherently the triaxis will be easier to setup with a tight crunch. but one thing i can say about the triaxis is that you can get closer to recto territory than a mark, or at least i could.
