i dont mind it, its another form of music and expression

It's not "music". Literary expression, yes, music...NO! For example, go to any person scratching on a turntable, ask them to scratch out a simple major scale of sampled notes. The day that happens I'll buy off that they know music.

+1! The ability to swing a bat does not make you a baseball player.

i dont consider it on the same level as other music, but i like it every now and then, especially when drunk with friends

I too am really selective with my rap, tupac and immortal technique are by far the greatest that have ever walked the earth. The thing about rap that leads me away from it is the monotony of it. I have never heard a rap song out of 4/4, maybe one but i think rap is a world loved by many but explored and pioneered by far to few. just my 2 cents

I want to know how R&B is now considered music like Usher and R. Kelly because that is not R&B at all.

+1 It's like they completely changed the genre but kept the name.

Anything that has rhythm is music. If a bunch of dudes get a bunch of drums and go out in the woods and get a drum circle going... it's music.

Music (myōō'zĭk)

n.

Vocal or instrumental sounds possessing a degree of melody, harmony, or rhythm.

I'm surprised at how close-minded people on this board are when it comes to hip hop and rap. I'm not a huge fan but I do respect it. Like I said before I think the popular media puts the worst of it (and its culture) out to the mainstream audience which results in the average person not getting exposed to the good stuff.

Yeah, but your forgetting that a drum circle involves people "PLAYING" them and not sampling beats to make crap. Any bozo can 1-finger a drum machine.

Yes!! nothing beats a flesh and blood drummer on prednizone leaping over his kit with the death look in his eyes ..
And then , in mid leap , realizing , what the flock am I doing ?
. But that'll never happen with a drum machine .
.
LIVE MUSIC IS BETTER BUMPER STICKERS SHOULD BE ISSUED .

Im surprised by the way a lot of people are coming off on here. It's one thing to not like a style of music (I for example am not a fan of techno), but to call it pointless, meaningless, repetative noise etc. is just ignorant. Are there crap hip hop acts out there? sure! But that doesn't mean that the genre as a whole should be judged by the merits of Vanilla Ice or MC Hammer. There are hip hop groups out there that have live backing bands and there are artists who write their own music. And if its so easy to "work a drum machine and steal other people music" to make rap songs why don't we all make beats and sell them to rappers for millions? The reason is because it takes a lot of creativty and musical ability to take an old song and remix it into a completly different song. Just my 2c...
