I can appreciate 'originals' like the Sugar Hill Gang, but the gangsta rap doesn't deserve the term 'music' as far as I'm concerned.

But to each his own...

Yes... but I'm very selective about it.

I really like Redman and Methodman... Busta Rhymes as well. Oh yeah - NWA and Public Enemy. Can't forget them.

There is a lot of cRAP out there... some of it is great though. I think the unfortunate thing is that VH1 and MTV expose the general population to the worst of it and people end up shunning the whole genre.

Yeah - I just love the violent, "give it to me or I'll take it from you", "the world is against me", materialistic negativity of the subject matter.... The world owe's me because I grew up/knew someone/stole a car from someone who lived on the "wrong side" of town.

Oh and you can't forget the complete lack of melody, repetitive thud and ripped off hooks from pop or rock songs they use to make their "music" sound interesting. There's nothing better than plundering a well known musical phrase because you have no shred of melodic initiative yourself - almost worked for Vanilla Ice.

I particulary love the repeated use of the most famous rap lyric of all; "uhh".

So, you and your peeps better show my post props, or I'll have my homies drive by and pop a cap in yo a**....

Word.

:p

Could I possibly sound ANY whiter?

hehe

...then why ain't you smiling?

Anyway, my answer is yes and no. I loved Public Enemy back in the day because they sampled Metal. She Watch Channel Zero sampled Slayer's Angel of Death. About this time NWA was starting to make it big and they said a lot of dirty words so as a 15/16 year olds we bought it. And of course the Beastie Boys (I still have Licensed to Ill and Pauls's Boutiqe think I'll break them out today!) as they cussed and drank beer on stage.

Several years later I got into a Tribe called Quest, Urban Dance Squad and LL Cool J played on MTV's unplugged.

Then the Rap/metal explosion Limp Bisquit (OK Fred Durst is a turd, but Wes Borland rocked) 311, Korn, etc and I liked that.

About that time the whole East Coast/West Coast thing started between Suge KNight and Dr.Dre and I think everything went downhill for rap. I hated Notoriuous Big (who I refer to the Notoroius D.E.A.D) and Tupac Shakur (which I pronounce Two Pack Shacker) Snoop Dog.

All the new stuff sounds alike to me.

Nah , too negative , repetative and uninspiring .
I'd rather gobble sh!t from a pig'sass than listen to it .
Pardon my metaphor .....

I dont like rap....but I love ******* and hos so I am conflicted on this issue.

i dont mind it, its another form of music and expression

It's not "music". Literary expression, yes, music...NO! For example, go to any person scratching on a turntable, ask them to scratch out a simple major scale of sampled notes. The day that happens I'll buy off that they know music.

+1.000

Well some rappers actually have good lyrics such as Immortal Technique and Nas. A lot of the lyrics are just about sex, drugs, and money and just other stupid **** like new rappers just repeat a bunch of stupid ass phrases like "I got money in my bank." Yeah, everyone has money in the bank.... that doesn't mean you have a lot of it

Because you have lyrics it doesnt mean you have music or every writter will be called musician
