Do you have the manual for the amp? If not download it from Mesa's website. I know my Reborn Dual Rec manual has some sample settings to get you started. Also I suggest reading through the manual several times and let everything sink in. The manual is written extremely well and explains how each knob responds on each channel.

Also like YellowJacket suggested set the eq knobs on noon and adjust from there. That's a great suggestion for dialing in any new amp.

In regards to your topic, I've boosted my Dual Rec with a TS-9, Fulltone OCD, and even a Boss MT-2. There is no right or wrong, let your ears decide. Right now I use the TS-9 with level dimed, tone on 9 o'clock, and the drive at 0. To my ears it really tightens the amp up.

Experiment. Grab yourself a TS-9 and play with it. If you don't like it, return it.

Happy tone chasing!

Try the orange channel in modern for more low end punch. Boost pedals are a good shaping tool, especially if you have lame pickups. Red modern is more mid range punch, brighter.... You'll have to turn up presence in orange. It IS the "rhythm" channel. sample tone setting are in the manual in the links i posted in your other thread. My red channel has less low end to the point that i turn it up to 2:30, and it's still mid-punchy... Orange i have set at 12 with plenty of low end punch. Also you will get a more liquid saturated tone in Orange modern, spongy mode, and having rectifier switch set to vacuum tube rectification IMO. For more "sizzle" Try mids at 9 and treble at 2:30 in orange and as you get used to the amp, slowly work them both back towards noon.

What model Rectifier do you have?

If you have a newer model with a series FX Loop I recommend you try a good Graphic EQ in the Loop. The MXR 10-band EQ is a great EQ that will handle the Recto's hot loop level no problem.

If you have an older model with a parallel FX Loop I recommend you look into modifying the Loop to series (extremely easy & reversible) and try a GEQ.

You could turn the parallel FX Loop mix to 90%, but the remaining 10% of dry signal may introduce phasing issues, and you will not be able to properly cut frequencies.

+10 for the EQ in the loop. I JUST got a series 2 single rec this week, and one thing that is nice about this one, is it is modified. The FX loop is serial instead of parallel, and that makes a HUGE difference on not having phase issues, and the MXR 10 band eq works great in this configuration. It is not a hard mod to do, and may make using the loop more palatable.

my 2 cents.
