hey

i got a dc5 (purchased it 2 months ago)
upon sale, it sounded very good

brought it home, and now i lost that tone on the lead channel, it's sounds fizzy, not realy tight

i've tried everything, different EQ settings, different guitars

i've even changed all the preamp tubes to nos philips tubes (changed them back to the stock, except v1 and v2 and V4), this made the amp a littlebit more 'creamy', what is good. and now the clean (almost) sounds like a twin reverb, only missing the reverb of it

i also changed the poweramp tubes to JJ's (matched to the greencolor code from mesa). this made the amp sound more "hard and punchy", also good

i also get a slight distortion on the reverb, starting from reverblevel 4-5 (sounds like an extra harmonic), i didnt tried it yet with a different tube

does anyone have advice to help me with this?

ps: i play @ home (for the moment) with this amp, preampvolume @3, powerampvolume @2,5

Dude you have to fix your ears cause I had this amp and it really sounded amazing.

i've tested it, and it was good, but @ home it didn't

i know it suposed to sound good, but i'm trying to figure out why mine doesnt

Try these settings on the lead channel and tell me what you think
gain 8.25
treble 5
mid 3
bass 2
presence just under 3
reverb 0 I dont like it on the lead channel
master 3 to 5
output level 2.5

with the eq set in any type of V. adjust to taste
depending on your guitar and pickups these settings should sound pretty tight and heavy. Good luck, I love my DC5!!!

Is the DC a head or combo?
Just wondering (since you swapped tubes) if different surroundings are making it sound funky. Maybe your homes power is an issue?
I have had that "man,it sounded killer in the store" and come to find out once I got home, the killer sound went to "so-so".

Also, someone in here with more knolege than me might offer the thoughts of changing the caps? Let us know whats happining...good luck.

Might be a power issue....do you have a power conditioner or something of the sort to atleast see if you're getting proper power?

And I would imagine that tube swaps can have their positives AND drawbacks....maybe try going back completely stock to see if it gets better?

i doubt it my homes electricity network is the problem, all my other tubeamps respond normal here :)

i also went stock, and it was worse (as said, the old philips tube made it more creamy and with the JJ 6L6 makes it sound harder, more punch to it)

i changed the PI from the stock tube to a nos 12at7, and now, it rocks, realy, i was looking for this tone

greetings
