For the last several years i,ve been mainly a Mark 3 user and i,ve converted all my combo's into heads for ease of use when gigging. However for the last year or so i,ve been hankering after a combo again for use in the house.I was going to buy a Fender Super sonic but then i chanced across a Dc 5b combo so the super sonic well and truely bit the dust lol.
So hear it is mid nineties Dc 5 combo versus 1986 Mark 3 purple stripe super sixty/no eq/verb!First off the clean channel the Mark has a brighter, more chiming clean with a fuller sound whilst the Dc is darker more scooped and compressed sounding,i like both but prefer the Mark.Still on the clean channel pull the gain boost and crank the mid knob on the Dc and what a great crunch channel compare it to the crunch channel on the Mark and verdict...Dc 5 winner...more gain lol.Onto the lead channel the Mark 3 is brighter, more aggresive with more gain, the Dc is darker, more scooped sounding once again with less gain on tap...winner Mark 3!
These are both great amps and i have to say the Dc 5 has a plethora of great features such as speaker mute, direct recording out and head phone jack which make it a great choice for recording and home practice sesh's but for gigging it's still going to be the trusty Mark 3.Interestingly the Dc can be set up to have three foot swithable sounds(it's a 2 channel amp)making it almost as versatile as my 3 channel Mark 3...mmh might look for a head versh in the future for gigging...lol.
