DC-5 is sounding "mushy"

Hi guys,

We all know how much i love my DC-5

Recently though i can't dial in an overdrive sound i like. No matter what i do i can't seem to stop the amp becoming mushy even at low gain settings. I currently like to play with the gain around 4-6, quite a lot of low end and mids on about 2-4.

I've tried everything i can with the tone controls but i just can't seem to dial it out. I'm wondering if this is something to do with the preamp tubes (they've never been changed).

I know changing all my preamp tubes in one go is not a wise move but i really think their time might be up.

Any suggestions?

Change them one at a time

I recently made the mistake of changing them all out at once. Turned out (at least I'm pretty sure) that 2 new ones are bad. It took a lot of hand cramps to nail down the culperates
